Bunnings at Gympie

By John Ritchie

Mar 2014

This month, erection of retaining walls for the new Bunnings store at Gympie commenced.   TerraPlus® retaining walls using galvanised steel soil reinforcement are being used by builders, De Luca Corporation, for works around the new carpark area.   Concrete facing panels are being cast by RECO's Sumner plant under the direction of Regional Manager Alex Jahshan.   Metropolitan commercial projects such as these have typically not formed a major component of RECO's annual order book in the past as owners and contractors have traditionally chosen to adopt low cost, poorly engineered solutions.   However, as owners and client's become more aware of the cost and disruption needed to rectify poorly designed and unsuitable solutions, they more and more are choosing systems that are tested and recognised for their reliability and durability by risk sensitive public authorities and technically astute clientele.   Expect to see more Reinforced Earth® structures on commercial sites in the future.

By John Ritchie

Mar 2014

Reinforced Earth Company (RECO) Precast Manager Southern Region - Chris Kennedy visited PNG late last month to get concrete panel production underway at the Kookaburra Street Flyover Project for Hawkins Construction.   1400 sqm of concrete panels are being manufactured by local workers in Port Moresby under the initial direction of Chris to ensure exact and efficient precasting whilst maintaining expected levels of quality.   Pictured below is Chris Kennedy with the PNG team.

All going well Hawkins should be ready to commence erection of the walls within a month, and RECO will be on-hand to ensure that this also occurs in a correct and efficient manner.

Moreton Bay Rail Link

By John Ritchie

Feb 2014

Although January can often be a slow month in many industries as we all stagger back to work at the start of the new year, Reinforced Earth Company saw the award of a number of projects to underpin our order book for 2014.   Most notably, Regional Manager North, Alex Jahshan, was able to report the award of 2,700 sqm of TerraPlus® retaining walls for the Moreton Bay Rail Link, north of Brisbane, with Thiess.   The Moreton Bay Rail Link is set to transform the region, providing a dedicated public transport link for one of the fastest growing areas in the country, and The Reinforced Earth Company is pleased to be able to play a small part.   Casting is set to commence at our Sumner precast facility in March.

In addition, January saw the company being awarded works in Gosford with Robson Civil as part of the North South Freight Rail Corridor.   Design work for the approximately 600 sqm of Reinforced Earth TerraPlus® walls has commenced.

Yandi Junction South West Dump Structure

By John Ritchie

Feb 2014

Works at or near completion recently includes the Yandi Junction South West Dump Structure with NRW.   This is the latest TerraMet® dump wall supplied to the Pilbara for Rio Tinto and achieves 25m in height.

We do however remind constructors of the importance of draining water away from the face of the wall during construction to prevent undesirable deformation of the wall before completion and therefore necessary rework.   Please adhere to the construction practices advised in our construction manuals and reiterated during our usual on-site construction training presentation at commencement.

The Reinforced Earth Company wishes to remind our client's of our REsafe services.   REsafe represents our commitment to encouraging safe work practices on site.   We offer a range of safety accessories for hire that are specifically designed for use with Reinforced Earth structures.   These accessories can be conveniently delivered to site with the wall materials - ready for use.   We'll be adding more products and services to this initiative as the year goes on.   Picture Below : our REsafe Barrier system at work on site at Dinmore to Goodna, QLD.
