August has seen a number of projects awarded to the Reinforced Earth Company including a haul road tunnel in Mining Area C for BHP in the Pilbara region of WA, and, the design and supply of Reinforced Earth® bridge abutments for the Vantassel to Cluden main road project on the Bruce Hwy near Townsville in QLD.

Meanwhile a number of existing projects continue at pace.   Substantial projects underway include Esperance freight corridor in WA and Tintenbar to Ewingsdale in northern NSW.   The Gold Coast Rapid Rail Project also continues to go well - where Reinforced Earth is supplying GeoMega® walls using the revolutionary Geostrap® polymer soil reinforcement which is durable in salty environments.   This is the fourth such government project undertaken using Geostrap® in QLD.

All four Reinforced Earth Company precast yards have continuing production in a somewhat slow infrastructure market at present.   This precast capability is now available to manufacture mainstream products including parapets, barriers, tilt up or cladding panels.   A reminder that our precast yards are located at Tuggerah and Albury in NSW, Sumner in QLD and Landsdale in WA.   Please find their telephone numbers here:

CoalTrans Conference in Indonesia - a success!

After the success of the last CoalTrans conference, Reinforced Earth Australia (RECO) and another three companies from the Soletanche Freyssinet Group, decided to exhibit for the second consecutive year in Bali, Indonesia.

According to the organisers, the number of visitors for the 2013 conference has increased significantly from last year and it is going to be an even bigger event next year.

Reinforced Earth® recently completed two TerraMet® bridges for PT Adaro, Indonesia. Feedback received from our client indicated that they are very happy with our work on these two structures. As a result, this will provide an excellent reference for RECO with future projects in Indonesia.

Further to this, the conference offered plenty of networking opportunities and RECO are looking forward to fostering the new relationships with productive collaborations.

Also, this month, RECO were awarded the design and supply of a 20M high (2020sqm) TerraMet® dump wall for Yandi Junction South West in Western Australia for Rio Tinto. This is another addition to our continually expanding portfolio in the mining industry in WA and in particular, the Yandi mines for both Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton.  

In addition, 396sqm of TerraPlus® Reinforced Earth® walls for the Gold Coast University Hospital in Queensland were completed. RECO are proud to have been part of this $1.76 billion project to deliver state-of-the-art health service facilities for South East Queensland and its expanding population.

Reinforced Earth® 50th Anniversary Events - a Success!

Reinforced Earth® (RECO) have been conducting a series of events and seminars in various states across Australia to celebrate the 50^th Anniversary of Reinforced Earth® and to introduce our expanding product range including Geomega® and country wide precast capability.  

On the 6^th May 2013 at the Engineer’s Australia Auditorium in Brisbane, RECO provided our Queensland customers with an informative seminar to celebrate our 50^th Anniversary. The seminar provided attendees with a range of presentations that featured recent major projects in Queensland, new product developments and a case study on the Burnett River Bridge in Bundaberg.

Our attendees (which represented a wide cross section of our customer base – from designers and specifiers to contractors, asset owners and specialised installers) were also treated to a feature video. The video presentation traced our company’s history from initial start up and patent, the continuing research along the way through to the expansion of applications and the fascinating and innovative projects we are involved in today.

On the 17^th May 2013 at RECO’s Landsdale precast yard in Western Australia, RECO provided our Western Australian customers with a tour of our new precast yard, informative presentations and a great opportunity to ask us questions and network (pictured).

A variety of people attended this event including; consultants, contractors, partners and members of our sister companies.

The location of this event was a long distance away from the main part of Perth and really demonstrated our customer’s commitment to Reinforced Earth®.

Many guests were also impressed by our precast capabilities and the organisation of our factory in Landsdale, Western Australia, thus securing the success of this event.  

Our next Reinforced Earth® event and seminar will be held on Tuesday 4 June 2013 from 5:30pm-7:30pm at the Engineers Australia Rooms A&B in North Melbourne. We hope to see all of our Melbourne customers there!

TerraTrel® barriers for Daunia Mine have been completed

The Reinforced Earth Company (RECO) has been engaged by Regis Resources to construct a 12M high (690sqm) TerraMet® dump wall for Rosemont Gold Mine.  

Rosemont Gold Mine is located 130 kilometres north of Laverton in Western Australia and will be constructed as a hybrid project with a crushing and milling circuit located at the deposit and an ore slurry pumped to the Garden Well processing facility. Rosemont is expected to produce approximately 80,000 per annum over a five year mine life.    

The construction of the Reinforced Earth® TerraMet® dump wall for Rosemont Gold Mine will commence in July 2013 and is scheduled to be completed in September 2013.

Also, this month, 1964sqm of TerraTrel® barriers for Daunia Coal Mine in Queensland were completed. The facing on the barriers consisted of galvanised steel mesh and were supplied by One Steel.

Daunia Mine is an open-cut coal mine and is located in the northern section of the Bowen Basin, approximately 18 kilometres southwest of Coppabella and 30km south-east of Moranbah. It will produce up to 4.5 million tonnes (Mtpa) of semi-hard coking coal and pulverised coal injection (PCI) coal for the export market.
