Noise walls for Claisebrook Rail Depot
Noise walls: Aesthetic considerations crucial
Reinforced Earth supplied 70 noise walls for along the southern boundary of the Claisebrook Railcar Depot in East Perth, Western Australia to provide a noise barrier for residents.
Aesthetic considerations were crucial for the project, as the noise barriers needed to enhance the visual appeal of the bounding residential area, not detract from it. Reinforced Earth’s team worked closely with our client, Westforce Construction, and project stakeholders to develop a tailored noise wall design that met all project requirements. Our solution combined advanced materials and engineering techniques to deliver an effective, durable and aesthetically pleasing noise wall.
The noise walls production and installation involved a collaborative approach between our engineering team, the contractor and authorities. In particular, Reinforced Earth and Westforce Construction collaborated to improve the panel-post connection detail to allow for ease of installation while retaining the earth-bonding required by the Perth Transport Authority, to ensure electrical continuity through the panels.
In terms of the aesthetics, the noise walls were finished in an appealing palette of sandy yellow, sage green and magenta pink. Each panel contained an architectural finish with the bespoke appearance obtained by utlising 3d printed leaves in a pattern, glued to the concrete casting beds. To allow light flow, every second wall contained a rectangular opening for glazed plexi glass.
The Claisebrook Railcar Depot noise walls showcase Reinforced Earth’s ability to deliver unique noise barrier solutions that address the multifaceted needs of modern infrastructure projects. By combining advanced engineering and aesthetic design we successfully created a solution that improves both the acoustic and visual environments of the area.
